FOREWORD

A NOTE FROM OUR DIRECTOR

“History repeats itself, first as tragedy, second as farce.” – Karl Marx

The theatre is a place where we can escape from the problems that the world presents us with. But for me, this is not enough. Rather, I like to face such problems head on and make light of them, through comedy. As director of Full Frontal Theatre this is my main objective. The Magpie and the Yorkshireman goes back to 1985, a time of sadness, fear and anxiety and plays out the events of the Brighton Bombings. The piece, however, isn’t meant to hold a strong political message Karl Marx said that if history repeats itself a second time, which it does on the Full Frontal stage, it is a farce. Therefore, we only aim to entertain you, the audience, through this situation that is highly exaggerated, bombastic and thus farcical!

We do not intend to change the world, we just want you, our audience, to laugh at it!

A NOTE FROM OUR DRAMATURG

Only Fools and Horses meets Kill Bill. That was my summative statement when pitching this idea, and whilst the piece has progressed massively since its inception, the core ideals have remained the same. Whilst it feels like my life has been consumed with The Magpie and The Yorkshireman since January, my writing team have worked tirelessly over the last few months to finish the script, and there is no way the piece would’ve been possible without them.

Dramaturg,
